So today is the first day of my new eating & exercise plan. I have decided to follow the advice of a couple of articles I've read recently. The first sites a study that eating low-carb (less than 50 carbs per day) for 2 consecutive days each week produces more weight-loss than eating low-carb every day. So I will follow this advice on Monday and Tuesday of each week. On days I am not eating low-carb I will just try to eat healthier and eat less.
The second was an article written by a woman who lost well over 100 pounds by walking 3 miles per day, 3 days per week. I will do that on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. Since I haven't really measured out what 3 miles is in our neighborhood I decided to calculate it this way... If I walked at 3 mph, it would take an hour to walk the 3 miles. Remembering my days of using the treadmill, I know I normally walk about 4 mph, so it should take be about 45 - 50 minutes to walk 3 miles. So I will walk at least 45 - 50 minutes on my 3 days per week.
The eating part of this plan will be pretty simple. A nice stir-fry, soup or salad are all foods I like. The walking part will be the challenge. I need to figure out the best time of day to walk, and I need to get my treadmill out of storage so I can use it on days I don't want to walk outside. It isn't the walking itself that will be the biggest challenge, it is taking the time out of my schedule. I am normally at my computer working by 6am each weekday, and by the time 4pm or later comes along, and work is done for the day, I'm too tired to want to go walk. Of course this is part of my life I am trying to change!
I weighed myself this morning, so I know my starting point. I will not share how much I weigh (at least not yet), but I need to lose at least 70 pounds before I'm going to feel comfortable with myself again. And more if I truly want to be thin. But we'll deal with that when we get closer to the goal.

Today is my first attempt at a Blog. I need to make positive changes in my life, like a lot of others do as well. I need to lose weight (a lot of it!), get healthy and move towards contentment in all areas of my life. And I believe sharing my journey through a blog will help me stay on track, even if I am the only one who ever reads it.
I plan to share my weight loss success and the steps I'm taking to get healthy and make my life happier. Along the way I will write about quilting, which brings me so much contentment, and our journey towards a more simple life.
